2019 Annual Conference Scholarships and Volunteer Opportunities - Closed

Housing California and the Residents United Network are dedicated to making the 2019 Annual Conference available to anyone interested in attending, and to developing leadership in advocacy. We encourage individuals who are unable to attend the conference due to financial hardship to apply for ONE (1) of the following scholarship funds:

  1. Residents United Network Scholarship Fund: These scholarships are available to members of the Residents United Network (RUN).

  2. General Conference Scholarship Fund: These scholarships are available to:

    • Residents living in affordable developments and individuals experiencing housing instability who are not associated with the Residents United Network.

    • Emerging leaders* in the affordable housing, homelessness or other related field. (Emerging Leader Qualifications: Verifiable students or individuals in the first ten years of working in the affordable housing, homelessness or related field)

 

How to Apply & Deadline to Apply

Scholarship Applications must be received via the online form no later than Thursday, February 28, 2019.

 

All information on the application form is confidential. Applicant information will only be reviewed by the Housing California Scholarship Committee to determine scholarship awards. Individuals will be notified of the status of their scholarship application by Friday, March 8. Scholarship/Fee Waiver Guidelines for General Conference Scholarship Fund Applicants

  1. All general conference scholarship fund applicants must demonstrate ONE or more of the following in their application:

    • Active involvement in the affordable-home/homeless community (or related field) through employment, education, training, or volunteer work.

    • Demonstrated commitment to the affordable-home/homeless community in application.

    • Financial need.

  2. No more than two recipients from the same organizations will receive a scholarship.

  3. All scholarship recipients must attend the conference. Should the recipient fail to attend, future scholarship applications will not be considered, and Housing California will NOT reimburse the recipient or sponsoring organization for any costs incurred (if applicable).

  4. General conference scholarships are non-transferable.

 

Applicants may apply for one of the following:

1. Full Conference Scholarship: Recipients will receive conference admission for Tuesday, April 16, and Wednesday, April 17, 2019, and reimbursement for actual costs not to exceed $450, as detailed below:

  • travel – up to $250

  • lodging – up to $175 per individual, and

  • dinner – up to $25 per individual for Tuesday night only

  • A three-day full scholarship option is available on the application for individuals interested in also attending Lobby Day or a Pre-Conference Institute on Monday, April 15.

NOTE: Sacramento residents are not eligible for Full Conference Scholarships.

 

2. Conference Fee Waiver: Recipients will receive conference admission for Tuesday, April 16, and Wednesday, April 17, 2019. It does NOT cover travel, lodging, or dinner. A three-day conference fee waiver is available on the application for individuals interested in also attending Lobby Day or a Pre-Conference Institute on Monday, April 15.


3. Volunteer Conference Fee Waiver:  Individuals willing to volunteer four (4) hours at the Annual Conference (or in advance of the conference) will receive conference admission for Tuesday, April 16, and Wednesday, April 17, 2019. It does NOT cover travel, lodging, or dinner.

NOTE: Individuals who are unable to front the costs of attending the conference are encouraged to find a local housing or homelessness organization that is willing to sponsor the applicant for a Full Conference Scholarship. The sponsoring organization will be responsible for advancing conference costs to the scholarship recipient. Housing California will reimburse the organization for actual costs for travel, lodging, and dinner as outlined above. Please contact Housing California if you wish to take advantage of this option.
