Reducing Parolee Recidivism Through Supportive Homes 

  • Two-page Overview -- This two-page overview explains how homes with supportive services reduce state costs related to recidivism, increase public safety, and improve outcomes for people with mental illness who exit prisons.
  • Successful Program by State -- Report. This report highlights programs in other states that have successfully reduced recidivism by parolees with serious mental illnesses.

SCase Study Garden Streetupportive Homes: Garden Street Center (Santa Barbara, CA) -- Case Study. This case study describes a supportive-home development that includes 51 apartment homes as well as Mental Health Association services, offices, and conference space, which are available to community groups.

Supportive Homes: Pathways to Success After Homelenessness (Sacramento, CA) -- Case Study. This case study describes the Pathways program. Pathways serves approximately 200 people who have mental illness and a history of chronic homelessness from three targeted populations: adults; emancipated, transition-aged youth (18-25 years old); and seriously emotionally disturbed children and their families.
