Senator Steinberg Affirms Commitment to Permanent Source at Housing CA's 30th Anniversary Gala

May 07, 2009

Proclaiming that "Homelessness does not have to be hopelessness," Senate President pro Tem Darrell Steinberg (D-Sacramento) accepted Housing CA's "Public Service and Leadership" award on April 27, 2009, at the organization's 30th Anniversary Gala.

Referencing his bill, SB 500, which would create permanent state investment in affordable-home programs, Senator Steinberg promised the hundreds of gala attendees, "We will get this done."

Senator Steinberg was joined at the gala by other "heavyweights" from the political and affordable-home arena. Senator Mark Leno (D-San Francisco) presented Housing CA with a California State Senate Resolution, praising the organization's 30 year history helping to increase the supply of affordable homes and its work toward ending homelessness.

In addition to Senator Steinberg, Housing CA honored two other inspirational leaders. The "Extraordinary Advocate" award was presented to Ms. Dianne Spaulding, Executive Director of the Non-Profit Housing Association of Northern California and the "Health Begins at Home" award was presented to Dr. Louis Vismara, Co-founder of the M.I.N.D. Institute.
