Senate Passes Prop. 1C Augmentation Bill
June 25, 2008
The Senate passed AB 1252 (Caballero) on June 23, 2008, with a bi-partisan 35-0 vote, sending the bill to the Assembly for a floor vote tomorrow.
This Housing CA-supported measure appropriates an additional $100 million to the Infill Incentive Grant Program and $50 million to the Transit-Oriented Development Program to augment the programs’ first round of funding.
Last week, the Department of Housing and Community Development’s (HCD) Loan and Grant Committee approved a list of developments that will be funded if the governor signs the bill before July 1, 2008.
In the programs’ first funding round, HCD received $1.5 billion in applications for the $335 million available. The department requested augmentations to fund high-quality developments that would otherwise have to reapply next round.
The Senate Republican Caucus held up the bill’s passage last week in order to negotiate a similar augmentation for transportation projects in Proposition 1B. They agreed to vote for AB 1252 after their language was amended into the bill.
