Policy Summit Chooses Housing California's Priority Bills
April 02, 2008
On Thursday, March 20, 2008, Housing California held its annual Policy Summit in Sacramento. Twenty-four members of Housing California's staff, Board of Directors, and policy committees participated in a five-hour meeting to review 53 newly introduced bills and determine Housing California's 2008 legislative priorities.
Participants selected 28 bills that Housing California will lobby this year, in addition to existing top priorities set by the board last December. Asm. Lori Saldaņa's (D-San Diego) density bonus bill, AB 2280, was the group's top pick. Other high priorities include Sen. Sheila Kuehl's (D-Santa Monica) SB 1165, affecting the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), and two measures to increase the supply of homes for people with developmental disabilities: SB 1175 -- Sen. Darrell Steinberg (D-Sacramento), and AB 2891 -- Asm. Lloyd Levine (D-Van Nuys).
