McKinney-Vento Reauthorization Possible This Season
With recent changes in the composition of the United States Congress, there is an increased possibility that reauthorization of the Housing and Urban Development Department’s Homeless Assistance Programs (commonly referred to as the McKinney-Vento Act) will occur this session. The vehicle for this reauthorization will likely be: Community Partnership to End Homelessness Act (introduced by Senator Reed (RI) in last session as S. 1801) and/or the Homeless Assistance Consolidation Act (H.R. 840).
Major legislative changes to homeless assistance programs last occurred in 1994. The impact of this year’s proposals could include substantive changes to the way assistance is delivered, the way eligibility is determined, and what the funding can be used for. Housing California will continue to provide updates on any reauthorization action.
