Little Action by Budget Committee

Assembly Budget Subcommittee #4 met on April 1, 2008, to discuss the governor's proposed budget for the Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD). The committee postponed action on most items until mid-May, when information about April tax return revenues will be available.
The committee did support the hiring of three staff people for two years to process loan extensions allowed by last year's SB 707 (Ducheny, D-San Diego). They also passed a consent calendar, containing minor budget and programmatic changes.
Other components of HCD's budget that are under discussion include a $400,000 cut to the Emergency Housing Assistance Program (EHAP); a cut of $343,000 from the Office of Migrant Services; and various appropriations to Proposition 1C programs.
