Legislature Focuses on Homeless Youth
The California Research Bureau recently conducted a major research and policy initiative to bring attention to issues faced by homeless and runaway youth. In conjunction with the research findings, Senator Alan Lowenthal (D, Long Beach) hosted an event in Sacramento. The December 6, 2007, presentation focused on homeless youth and was delivered to legislators, government agency and legislative staff, and advocates.
The event included testimony from several homeless youths, two service providers, and state government staff and brought to light the gaps in affordable homes and service delivery. For example, not every homeless youth has been in foster care, but many of the resources available are limited to former foster youth.
