• Mid-Peninsula Housing Coalition announced last week that Matt Franklin will take over as Executive Director when Fran Wagstaff retires in July. Franklin currently heads the San Francisco Mayor's Office of Housing and previously served as the director of the state Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD).


• The state Assembly swore in its first African-American female Speaker on May 13, 2008, as Assemblymember Karen Bass (D-Los Angeles) took the reins from Assemblymember Fabian Núñez (D-Los Angeles). Soon after, Bass announced new members of her leadership team, including Ted Lieu (D-Torrance), Alberto Torrico (D-Fremont), and Lori Saldaña (D-San Diego).
