Housing CA Takes Positions on Key Legislation

April 13, 2009

On March 25, 2009, Housing CA's Board of Directors took positions on 10 housing- and homelessness-related bills:

  • AB 338 (Ma) Financing transit villages (Support)
  • AB 1065 (Gilmore) Farmworker housing tax credits (Support)
  • AB 1084 (Adams) Local development fees (Oppose, unless amended)
  • ACA 9 (Huffman) Local government bonds: voter approval (Support)
  • SB 812 (Ashburn) Developmental services: housing (Support)
  • AB 498 (Hayashi) Homes for veterans (Support)
  • AB 570 (Arambula) Local Housing Trust Fund Matching Grant Program (Support)
  • SB 326 (Strickland) Housing elements (Oppose)
  • SB 450 (Lowenthal) Federal Housing Trust Fund (Support)
  • SB 518 (Lowenthal) Parking services and fees (Support)

These measures join seven other top priorities previously identified by the board.

"We're strategically focusing our energies on a smaller group of bills this year," said Julie Spezia, Housing CA's executive director. "Senator Steinberg's SB 500 -- establishing a dedicated revenue stream for affordable-home development -- is our community's number one priority, and we will devote significant resources to getting it enacted into law."
