HCA Board Adopts 2007 Legislative Priorities
Twenty four members of HCA's policy working groups and board gathered in Sacramento on Monday, March 26, 2007, to debate and prioritize 53 housing and homelessness bills.
Participants whittled the bills down to 29 "Tier 2, 3, and 4" priorities for 2007. The HCA board ratified these recommendations on Thursday, March 29, 2007.
The priorities include measures affecting density bonus and housing element law, prevailing wages, and AB 2034 funding.
The board had previously set six "Tier 1" priorities for the organization:
- Supportive homes for mentally ill parolees (budget request) Promise Program Proposal
- AB 927: Homes for Seniors
- Prop. 1C implementation. Roughly 30 bills have been introduced on this topic.
- MHSA Housing Program
- State Housing Trust Fund: communications campaign and opposing SB 670 (Correa)
- State 10-year plan to end homelessness
Bill hearings hit high gear when the legislature returns from Spring Recess on April 9.
