Great News for PROMISE! Senate Budget Subcommittee Appropriates $10 Million for Services
May 14, 2008
On April 28, 2008, Senate Budget Subcommittee #4 approved a staff recommendation to appropriate $10 million in the 2008-09 Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation budget for services for mentally ill parolees. These services may include such things as mental health services, alcohol and drug treatment, and crisis management, as well as housing.
This appropriation is an increase above and beyond the $4 million already allocated for the same purpose in this year's budget and will fund PROMISE (Program for Returning Offenders with Mental Illness Safely and Effectively), once SB 1651 is signed into law by the governor.
