Policy & Legislation
Final Month of Session Is Jam-packed
August 10, 2009
August 17 is rapidly approaching and, along with it, a flurry of policy and appropriations committee hearings in Sacramento. Legislators face a September 11 deadline to pass bills in order to have them considered by the governor this year.
Housing California and our allies have a number of high-priority measures still in play and set for hearing. Senate Appropriations will hear AB 1177 (Fong, interagency council) and AB 1364 (Evans, contracts) on August 17. Senator Lowenthal's SB 450 (refundable housing tax credit) will most likely be heard on August 24 in Assembly Revenue and Taxation.
Measures expected to be heard this month but not yet calendared are:- SB 120 (Lowenthal, tenants) -- Assembly Appropriations. Support.
- SB 575 (Steinberg, housing elements) -- Assembly Appropriations. Interested.
- AB 338 (Ma, transit villages) -- Senate Third Reading. Support.
- AB 494 (Caballero, farmworker homes) -- Senate Third Reading. Support.
- AB 570 (Arambula, local housing trusts) -- Senate Third Reading. Support.
- AB 1246 (Jones, workforce coops) -- Senate Consent Calendar. Support.
- SB 290 (Leno, tenants) -- Assembly Third Reading. Support.
