California Counts in the 2010 Census
July 01, 2009
The 2010 Census will be extremely important in determining congressional representation and federal funding. According the governor's office, California is at risk of losing a congressional seat for the first time in 150 years and stands to lose as much as $5 billion in federal funds.
Housing CA's Julie Spezia is part of the California Complete Count Committee for Census 2010, "There is a role for all of us to make sure that 'hard to count' populations are reached," she noted. At a recent training Julie learned about opportunities for participating in the 2010 census.
You can help by:
- Becoming a 2010 Census Partner.
- Forming or joining a local Complete Count Committee.
- Planning a census event for National Census Day (April 1, 2010).
Timeline
- Fall 2009 -- Recruitment begins for census takers.
- February 2010 -- Census questionnaires will be mailed or delivered.
- April-July 2010 -- Census takers visit households.
- By December 2010 -- Census Bureau delivers the population counts to the President.
In spite of technological advances, the census is primarily a paper-form process.
