Air Resources Board Hears Land-Use/Climate Change Recommendations
December 02, 2009
On November 19, 2009, California Air Resources Board (ARB) staff presented the board with the Regional Targets Advisory Committee's (RTAC) detailed recommendations on targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions by changing local land-use patterns. The recommendations were the culmination of eight months of intensive work by the RTAC and ARB staff.
The ARB did not take any formal action on the recommendations; however, according to ARB staff, they have already begun to implement them.
Housing California's Julie Snyder testified in favor of the full report, highlighting the need for enhanced data collection and modeling demonstrating how greenhouse gas emissions are affected when people can afford to live near their jobs. Housing California's Climate Plan allies also testified, including Autumn Bernstein, executive director of Climate Plan; Parisa Fatehi with Public Advocates; and Amanda Eaken from the Natural Resources Defense Council.
Housing California and our allies will continue to work with ARB staff to ensure they have the necessary information -- and political will -- to thoroughly implement the report's housing and social-equity recommendations.
