AB 927 Moves Closer to Governor

Senate Appropriations Committee passed AB 927 (Saldaña) on Monday, July 16, 2007, with a 10-7 partisan vote. We lost ground with Republican legislators, as Senator Bob Dutton (R-Inland Empire) switched his “aye” vote from a prior hearing to a “no” vote in this hearing. The Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) continues to oppose the bill on the grounds that the Multifamily Housing Program (MHP) already funds homes for seniors in proportion to their percentage of the target population.

Housing California, the other co-sponsors, and the author are considering whether to make AB 927 a two-year bill. Under this scenario, we would have until August 2008 to win over some Republican legislators and the governor.
