AB 2097 Creates Pilot Program to Fund More Services in Permanent Supportive Homes
July 09, 2008
After accepting an amendment in Senate Transportation and Housing Committee on June 24, 2008, AB 2097 (Coto, D-San Jose) will now serve as a pilot program, allowing Santa Clara County's Redevelopment Agency to use up to 5% of their Low and Moderate Income Housing Fund to fund supportive services within new, permanent supportive-home developments. This will allow Santa Clara County to construct more permanent supportive homes and help to meet the goals set by its local 10-Year Plan to End Chronic Homelessness.
After significant internal debate within policy committees and at the board level, Housing California decided to remove its opposition and move to a "support if amended" position on AB 2097. AB 2097 is currently awaiting a vote on the Senate floor.
