Housing California's "Creating Community" conference focuses on affordable homes -- including homes with services ("supportive homes") -- for the mental health and homeless communities. Through discussion and interactive presentations, Creating Community 2008: Planting Ideas, Growing Solutions will bring together policymakers, service providers, and advocates from different disciplines and strengthen alliances between the mental health, law enforcement, hospital, homeless, and affordable-home communities.

  • Sheriff Leroy Baca, Officer Rick Schnell, Sean McGlynn -- Sheriff Baca leads a panel of speakers who give us a first hand look at compassionate policing.


  • Meredith Stout, June Cummings, Monique Davis -- The Sister's Project is a collaboration of artists from the San Francisco Bay Area who use photography and poetry to break down stereotypes about a significant sector of America's homeless population. The Sister's Project shares their current DVD "Walk in My Shoes" with the affordable homes community in the "Women, Children and Homelessness -- Growing a Response" multi-media lunch session.


  • Award Presentation Honoring Theresa Parker -- Theresa Parker, Retiring CalHFA Director is honored for her accomplishments in the affordable homes community.
