California's Senate President pro Tem, Darrell Steinberg

As Housing California's 2010 Annual Conference keynote speaker, Senate President pro Tempore Darrell Steinberg reaffirmed his commitment to creating a dedicated revenue source for the state's housing trust fund. Though the state is currently mired in a huge budget deficit, Steinberg told the 800-plus attendees that a "permanent source" will be in place by the time he leaves the Senate in 2014.

At the April 28, 2010, lunch, Steinberg thanked Housing California and all the conference attendees for their ongoing commitment to helping the less fortunate among us, and urged our community to continue building coalitions and legislative support for a 2011 measure. California State Treasurer Bill Lockyer

Housing California also honored State Treasurer Bill Lockyer for his role in crafting and promoting an innovative solution to our community's construction-lending difficulties. Treasurer Lockyer pointed out that, although the state's current fiscal situation is grim, its debt is only 1 percent of Gross Domestic Product and its workforce is one of the smallest in the nation (measured on a per capita basis).
