About Us
Century Housing
Century Housing is a private, nonprofit lender to developers in greater metropolitan Los Angeles, helping to provide quality, attractive homes and apartments within the means of low- and moderate-wage earners. As a leading financier of low- and moderately-priced homes and apartments in Southern California, Century works to create more choices in the housing market for L.A.’s working families. Century and its predecessor, the Century Freeway Housing Program, have financed more than 13,000 homes, serving more than 40,000 individuals.
The lack of homes within the means of most Angelenos has reached crisis proportions. More than half of Los Angeles County renters spend 30% or more of their income on rent (30% or less is considered “within means”)—the growing crisis now affects moderate-income working families as well as lower-income households. When families spend too large a percentage of their income for a roof over their heads, they are forced to choose between housing costs and their other basic needs—like food, child care, health, and transportations costs. Century is committed to reversing these trends by restocking the shelves of the housing market, providing more choices for all Angelenos.
